Man Up

If you look through biblical scriptures have you ever noticed that the word Teenager never gets mentioned, why is that? I think its because teenager is just a modern term for growing up to be a man. The bible only mention if you notice the words Boy and Man.

Boy indicates going through the motions and leaning solely on another person to make the decisions.
Man indicates independance, knowing who you are, what your strengths are and relying more on your conscience then anything else.

In jewish culture there is a right of passage into manhood where the moment a boy turns 13 he has to undergo an initiation into manhood called a barmitzvah, having been brought up the last good years befriending some good jewish friends I can say by observation how sacred this process is and the stuff that goes on to prepare for it is quite hectic.

Why do I throw in all this, its because its a lesson to all that we need to skip past this boy stage and be a man. Have you noticed why fathers regardless of faith and belief are hard on their sons? Its because they are training their own kids to be men, yes men who at the end of the day has the ability to be trained to look after and be the head of the family that he is required to be.

I AM L8 GP - A story of time

On my way to gymnastics practice today I saw a car head in the opposite direction with the numberplate I AM L8 GP and I got to thinking how rushed our lives in general are. I also thought to myself how often do we give God enough our time to satisfy him. I think next time you wake up or go about your day take some time and just spend it communicating with God about stuff, he will be more pleased to have had that time with you.

God Found Us

I was looking through the lyrics to a song yesterday and as I read the words I was completely floored, what I saw were lyric based on the personal nature of the person who wrote it as I would no doubt guess and whilst I may have come nowhere this personal declaration there are people out there who are facing this same thing and same thoughts and the song just so happens to be You found Me by The Fray

"You Found Me"

[Verse 1]
I found God
On the corner of First and Amistad
Where the west
Was all but won
All alone
Smoking his last cigarette
I said, "Where you been?"
He said, "Ask anything".

[Verse 2]
Where were you
When everything was falling apart?
All my days
Were spent by the telephone
That never rang
And all I needed was a call
That never came
To the corner of First and Amistad

[Chorus 1]
Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lyin' on the floor
Surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait?
Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, you found me

[Verse 3]
In the end
Everyone ends up alone
Losing her
The only one who's ever known
Who I am
Who I'm not, who I wanna be
No way to know
How long she will be next to me

[Chorus 2]
Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lyin' on the floor
Surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait?
Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, you found me

[Bridge]
Early morning
The city breaks
I've been callin'
For years and years and years and years
And you never left me no messages
Ya never send me no letters
You got some kinda nerve
Taking all I want

[Chorus 3 and outro]
Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lyin' on the floor
Where were you? Where were you?
Lost and insecure
You found me, you found me
Lyin' on the floor
Surrounded, surrounded
Why'd you have to wait?
Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late
You found me, you found me
Why'd you have to wait?
To find me, to find me

As you read the words and just travel down, what you see is someone completely filled with anger over certain situation in his life and goes out on an all out mission to blame God for all the pain he has suffered and how often do we as people face storms in our life (and I tell you if they haven't come watch out because they will come) blame God and just dwell and feed that blame until it completely consumes them and at the same time misses the boat and fails to see Gods hand at work in all those situations.

Rom 8:28  And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

This passage from Romans tells of the one promise from God that whatever storms we face that Gods hand is in it all working it out for good and I wonder if the writer of that Fray song knows that. What I like though is the writer goes on to say in short "You Found Me". I hear people say in their testimonies "I found God" to which I say, I didn't know he was lost. God found us and he finds us at exactly the right time, not too late and not too early and he meets us where we are issues and all.

God on Demand

How often do we as people misunderstand the bible and even misunderstand what God says on top of that.

Too often people turn to a passage of scripture that tells them a harsh reality and they just skip and find another passage on the same area and ignore the fact somehow those words are being spoken to them, its almost as if they are ripping the pages out of the bible and merely just making it a story book that means nothing to them. Whats even more interesting is they tend to put God in a box and kind of pass demands on him as if we created God and we tell him what to do our lives.

This is just a thought based on observations and one observation we should not follow. God is not supposed to be put in a box but instead lives are supposed to be placed in his hands and he will guide them the way he seems fit.
