A Journey through Romans - Chapter 9

Rom 9:15  For he says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion."
Rom 9:16  So then it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God, who has mercy.

What does Mercy mean, well the Oxford dictionary says that its kindness shown to an offender or enemy, this is a very different picture to what the pharisees had shown, how often do we try to drag down those that hurt us, or hurt our family or hurt our friends but that is not what Jesus shows, as what Jesus shows is something called grace and forgiveness to those very people

Rom 9:25  As indeed he says in Hosea, "Those who were not my people I will call 'my people,' and her who was not beloved I will call 'beloved.'"
Rom 9:26  "And in the very place where it was said to them, 'You are not my people,' there they will be called 'sons of the living God.'"

How encouraging that the very love that we don't deserve God offers us and even calls us to do his purpose take Paul who wrote this, this man was a murderer commiting the most horrible of acts and God meets him on the road to Damascus where he was originally going to kill a few christians but instead his eyes gets opened and  suddenly gets welcomed into Gods kingdom and goes out to to preach the gospel in different towns and even planting churches. Paul went from "You are not my people" to "Son of the living God" and made history by spreading the gospel to the ends of the earth.
